Self-service technology can bring several related tasks into one place, giving users a more direct way to obtain the information and documents they need.
During my previous employment with a global technology organisation, I was the original developer of a financing application used by employees and authorised business partners. The application supported financing quotations and related activities across multiple countries, languages and currencies.
The challenge: supporting a complex international process
The application needed to support a financing process involving quotations, credit-approval requests and contract documentation.
Its users operated across different markets, making this more than a single-country calculator. The solution needed to accommodate an international financing context while providing a practical self-service route for eligible users.
My contribution: developing the original application
I developed the original application, bringing technical implementation together with an understanding of the financing process it supported.
The tool enabled users to generate pre-credit and post-credit leasing schedules for technology products from the organisation and other manufacturers. Its wider self-service capabilities supported financing quotes, credit-approval requests and the production of straightforward financing contracts.
The application therefore connected several stages of a business workflow rather than addressing an isolated calculation.
Keeping the scope of this example clear
This example concerns the original application development. Later work on separate financing calculators, integration and credit-screening enhancements is covered in other project examples.
Keeping those activities distinct reflects the different contributions involved: creating the original self-service tool, then undertaking subsequent development and enhancement work.
The outcome: an established self-service financing tool
The application became an extensively used tool for employees and business partners, supporting financing activity across multiple markets and reducing the need for manual intervention from the financing team.
What this means for smaller businesses
A useful digital solution starts with understanding the work it needs to support. Calculations, approvals and document generation should be considered as parts of a connected process.
Through VitaAssist Consulting, I bring that combination of technical understanding and practical business perspective to requirements development, workflow improvement and technical solutions.
